another update

The facebook page has been taking the priority unfortunately. I need to keep more up to date with my posts here.
Had AMC comic-con back in October, done a few smaller markets, caricatured at a wedding, exhibited in a Star Wars themed exhibition, also made my pin-up calendar for the third year running, plus been busy with freelance work and commissions.
Here's an update of some of what I've been up to-

Supanova Perth Wrap up

This post is a little over due. So, I went over to Perth last month for the Supanova comic-con. With my family being in Perth was a good chance to get in a visit with them and catch up with some old friends too. This was my first interstate con and I was very pleased with the result. I'll definitely be back for sure. Both days were busy with me selling a range of work and also doing commissions.

It was an opportunity to show my latest print of Barbarella
As always, lots of cosplay fun

I was also asked by my high school, friend Katrina, to give a couple of talks and demonstrations to her after-school art classes which were also a lot of fun.

My 2015 Calendar still has stock available for sale and this year I've opened an online shop on my facebook artpage. Below is instructions on how to get to it for those who are interested in purchasing it online.

...and here's a piece I recently finished as a request from my daughter-

Still alive!

Sorry it's been a while since I've posted anything here. The facebook page has taken a bit of a priority as well as general busy-ness with my pin-ups and other stuff.
On an exciting front, I'll be a first time exhibitor at Melbourne's Supanova this weekend (April 12-13). Come and find me in Artist alley at table A038 and say hello
Here's a bit of a sketchdump of work that I've done over the last couple of months that I've neglected to post here-

This one was for my friend Craig Bruyn who's been producing his own comic-
...and a commision portrait piece to cap it all off

Pimping my work

After a recent t-shirt design for a friend proved somewhat popular and the success of a couple of friends in similar ventures, I've decided to try and see if my artwork can generate some interest in the accessories market and therefore have modified some of it to iPhone and iPad case cases for sale on Red Bubble.
Check me out here
I'm planning on adding more and expanding into t-shirts as well in the new year so if you'd like to accessorise with my art or wear my art, you'll make this artist rather chuffed.

Drawing Talk

A few weeks ago, I was asked by my daughter's teacher to give a talk to the class on drawing. My daughter had taken in some of my drawings for something and the subject was raised.
What to say, I thought...
Well, apart from the obvious "yes" I worked something out and organised a time to go in.
It's not something I'd done before- I was a little nervous being put on display in front of a group of Grade 2 students.
I gave a little bit of background on myself and explained that I had a job drawing pictures, that when I was growing up my Dad worked in a bank and that I didn't know people could have a job drawing pictures. I said how I'd worked on a bunch of TV series and movies and showed the covers of some of the Disney movies that I'd worked on. There were raises of hands from those who'd seen particular ones. I then explained a little bit about animation, how it takes 24 drawing to make one second of animation and that in a week you might only make seven seconds of animation. I explained how it took lots of people to make an animated movie and that many of us have to draw the same character and that to draw these characters they are all built up from simple shapes and construction.
From there I then launched into some demos and drew Mickey Mouse and some other Disney characters that I could remember drawing. It was great fun watching and listening to their reactions as I stepped through the process.
The class were all then handed drawing boards, sheets of paper and a pencil and joined in, creating their own Mickey Mouse pictures which have ended up proudly hung around the classroom.
The positive reaction from all of the class was great, the eagerness that they watched with, some great questions. It was loads of fun.

Fanboy: Goodies and Baddies

Okay, so after all the last minute panic my Art Prints have been received, framed and dropped off at the Gallery.
As I've alluded to previously, Artboy Gallery in Prahran, Melbourne has had a series of Fanboy Exhibitions in which Artists are invited to submit pieces based on a theme. I've not managed to finish my pieces by the deadline in the past due to one reason or another, and after the last one promised myself to start earlier. The current theme is "Goodies and Baddies" and I managed to finish not one but two pieces.
The exhibition opens this coming Friday June 15 at 6pm.
Here's a peek of my two pieces...

I've also got something extra which I haven't done before- a screen capture as I was working digitally. It's probably a bit like a magician revealing his secret but anyway... My initial pencil sketches were scanned in and then I worked over them digitally. There's a couple of breaks in the video as I was working on two computers and didn't have the capture software on one of the computers. But it gives you an idea of it all coming together captured at one frame per second.

Sneaky looky

So, I have been productive for the last couple of months, but have held off posting anything of what I've been doing in fear of jinxing myself. Readers of previous posts will note how I've tried to finish artwork for exhibitions and well, failed miserably.
This time around I figured start early and go hard. I finished the first piece with enough time up my sleeve before  the entry deadline that I started a second piece. The entry form has now been submitted and the second piece finished and sent to the printer.
I'll post pictures of the framed pieces once I get them back from the printer and further details of the exhibition, but for now here's a couple of sneak peeks.

RIP Maurice Sendak

I remember that "Where the Wild Things Are" was always next to impossible to loan at the library, it was out that often, but as a kid I loved looking at those mesmerising drawings.

Pink Bundle

Sorry, been busy with our new addition to post an update (and picture).

Yes, the stork brought us a pink bundle, a little girl, Jade born on September 20 and she is being adored by everyone, particularly her now big brother and sister.

Sorry, no photos to share here- I have facebook and private email for that. It appears though that I've had one rather persistent visitor looking for just that, and if it is who I think it is then she really has no business looking here.
